—-
We all have a few deep desires for a variety of treats, whether it’s chocolate, bacon chesseburgers, brazilian men in speedos, casual encounters in Cancun, or spice gold. But have you ever asked yourself, “what do I really need right now”? Maybe you just need some broccoli, raw goat milk, a handful of nuts or a psychotherapist.
Check out this interesting post from Modern Forager and get some answers. Also check out the five hotdogs that will kill you.

I don’t have the cravings I used to have. I keep my fat picture everywhere as a reminder!

I have a terrible sweet tooth so I keep grapes in the freezer. They are sweeter frozen and usually help cur my craving. In a newer trend I will just bookmark that nasty hotdog page and wont want to eat for a whole day!

Without a doubt my food craving is dark chocolate. I’m a bit of a chocolate snob and only eat 85% coco or higher. I “deal” with it by eating it.
Because dark chocolate is so bitter, just a square or two is all I need to get my fix.

All I want to know is where I can get one of those cheeseburgers!

My grandmother’s homemade Christmas sugar cookies which NO ONE has ever been able to duplicate and she is no longer with us (20+ years gone). Made with lard and pure heaven in the shapes of bells, angels, X-mas trees and the like….. I DO love a good, make that fantastic, cookie. Store bought, commercial kine is rarely, if ever, worthy.

Unfortunately, I fall into the Brazilian men group. That and Nutella. I’m with you on the snobbishness, Tara, but you can’t have just one!

Once a week, I allow myself to give in to my cravings. Lately, it’s Coldstone (peanut butter cup perfection, baby!)
I plan out the day, and save my cravings for that moment. Somehow, it never seems that worth it after the fact. I try to remember that feeling everytime I have those cravings, and that way I am able to convince myself that I don’t really want it, I just think I want it. It works.

Where is the nearest Krispy Kreme? No, seriously where? TELL ME KNOW!
Comment by BADger — September 22, 2008 @ 8:21 pm
The nearest Krispy Creme is on Maui!!
So I guess that my cravings only get me when I am on the mainland and they are:
1:Pastrami on rye
2: really good Pizza
3:Carvel ice cream
4:Krispy Kreme
and just so happens I leave my fat picture at home……….

Gross! I’m all about the chocolate, specifically Ritter Sport German chocolate! Like Tara, I just eat it to deal with it, and like Nick, I can’t stop at just one or two pieces, but maybe 3-4 pieces, then I follow it up with a water based 100% whey protein shake, so I Zone eat my chocolate cravings.

I used to get these McDonald’s cravings…I would go to the drive thru, buy something, but not eat it. For some reason, just buying it satisfied the craving (okay, maybe I had like one fry, but that’s all I swear). It was hard to just throw it away, but it seemed like the lesser evil. It was the first step in breaking the habit.

I rarely get cravings anymore, but if I do it is one of the following:
Coldstone-coffee ice cream with oreos or brownie!
Micky-D’s quarter pounder- a holdover from childhood when McDonalds was a rare treat, not a daily thing like what today’s kids get.
LOVE McDonalds french fries.
I usually get cravings after a grueling event, probably my body wanting mega calories. Otherwise not too often.

Will, that’s a really interesting behavioral strategy. It reminds me of the diet where you chew up the food but don’t swallow it…
After living here, I get cravings for malassadas and mochi ice cream at times. So, I give in, but still balance the sugary goodness with some protein.
Other than that, I try to chew gum when I have cravings. It seems to help.

Definitely dark chocolate. Thanks Karissa, for reminding me how much I love Ritter Sport Chocolate. I really like their Marzipan. I usually will just eat the chocolate when I get the craving but I have been known to seriously over-indulge, so I count the calories and try not go over 300.
