After my bowl of steel cut oats, I feel real horror show.

Those are the words–along with the stench of Marlboro Reds, explaining why I had to be so anal and shave till I bled–that ring through my ears when I think back on my 2 months in basic training … Thus it is that the Saturday afternoon class will also fall in line with the rest and start on the hour.

The new starting time for the Saturday afternoon class will be 3:00 pm. For all of you that enjoy sleeping in on Saturdays, come out and get some with us at 3:00 pm.

Speaking of sleep, which is the fundamental means to good health and happiness–probably more so than diet–check out these great links about omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. For those of you who don’t know, omega-6s are the ones predominant in grains and omega-3s are the ones we find in fish and fish oil.

Omega-6s and Your Brain

Post your thoughts. Do you think that an increased ratio of omega-6s can be a factor leading to increased depression and homicides?

  1. I think you need to look into the importance of Vitamin D and its link to depression…

PS, If this is Nick, are you as disturbed as I am about the Pro Corn Syrup PSA’s that are being put out by the corn industry?

  2. I have been seeing them and they suck! It makes me sick everytime. The sad thing is that most people are not going to put it together that the very fact that they are putting those PSA’s out tells you that something is very wrong with the substance.

  3. Yes, it is me. And yes I have seen the HFCS nonsense floating around the internet recently. Corn Syrup is sugar no matter how you look at it. Yeah, it might not be different from sugar chemically, but it happens to be in EVERYTHING. That’s my issue with it. Sugar in everything? I saw that bread manufacturers started adding the stuff to their products. What ever happened to food?

Since when were popsicles and Kool-Aid good? Go to the store and find a bottle of Karo syrup. That’s the stuff that you’re eating in Coke, beer, and even bread.

While I’m ranting, I love the irony of their tax shelter/fund raising effort they call “Bake for the Cure.” As if eating sugar laden delights weren’t a correlate, if not a likely cause, of cancer.

  5. Most kids thoughout the country eat 40% of their meals at fast food restaurants. Most of the items on the kids menu are deep fried in trans fats (omega 6s). Trans fats make cell membranes less fluid so neurotransmitters have a harder time crossing the membrane to reach target tissues. Therefore, those feel good neurotransmitters can’t get where they need to go! That’s depressing!
