Apparently the men of CFO can gain a bunch of muscle mass using weights but do the women? Check out this article about the top ten reasons heavy weights don’t bulk up a female athlete. Post your thought or experiences to the comments.

  1. I try and tell this to a lot of my female friends, but they usually blow me off, or say they don’t believe me.

I think the bigger reason in a lot of these cases is what the author points to in the article: “Trainers will hand out easy workouts and tell people they work because they know that if they make the program too hard the client will complain.” Or they read similar workouts in “fitness” publications. A lot of people simply just don’t like hard work.

The author says “Heavy weights will promote strength not size.” From now on, I’ll tell my friends that training with heavy weights makes small functional muscles, while high reps with moderate to light weights makes big useless muscles.

  3. Good stuff.

Fact: Female athletes will not look like shaved gorillas if they lift heavy.
