Lendal pushing hard on a work out but is it too hard? The NY Times wrote an article on Crossfit awhile back that seemed to say that Crossfit is dangerous. You can read the article here. They made these points in the article- Inexperienced people will hurt them self on this program, Its a cookie cutter program that won’t apply to every one, People hurting them self by not reducing heavy weights, and that there is too much emphasis on time and not on form. Has that been your experience here at CFO or any CF facility or is that mistakes people would have made on any program? There is a lot to talk about here so please post your thoughts to the comments by clicking on the title.

  1. I hurt myself doing kipping pullups a while back before I made it to a crossfit gym. Nothing serious, it healed. I’ve never injured myself at Crossit Oahu. I also believe that the o-lifts should be coached, not self taught. I know people that have injured themselves bodybuilding.

  2. Ok, if you can get hurt playing golf (low impact sport) then you can get hurt doing Crossfit. If you’re not prepared, careful, use moderation, and maintain a base level of fitness, well then you might get hurt walking to get that beer out of the fridge! Crossfit is like any other training regime, you have got to work you’re way up, but the GREAT thing about CF is that it is much more scalable to your current fitness level than other sports and training programs I’ve used over the last 14 years. This is the only program that has challenged me and made me a stronger athlete in all aspects while reducing my susceptibility to injury. Keep up the great work!

  3. Havent’ hurt my self but I did notice that on the site and in the gym that form should be very strict. As for hurting yourself by using too much weight, anyone can hurt themselves on any exercise program by jumping in too quickly.

  4. I love how the article fails to mention how all the workouts are scalable for all different fitness levels. Ya gotta get up to speed on the on-ramp before you can merge on the highway. Check your ego at the door and learn the basics. Coaches will make sure you are good and ready before they let you loose with the fire-breathers. :)

  5. Oh and techique is definently emphasized at crossfit oahu. Bryant is always correcting technique during workouts.

  6. Good going Bryant! I saw you on the TV here on the ship and heard the good news. Go destroy the competition.

  7. Every workout, ever put into media, has potential for being dangerous.
